Intel to lay off 15,000 employees this week

Ana sayfa / News

Intel is a company that has made significant innovations in the technology sector for many years. However, the challenging market conditions and changes in the industry in recent years have forced Intel to make restructuring decisions. From now on, voluntary layoffs are over and forced layoffs are starting. Here are the details…

The company will start a massive layoff operation this week. Approximately 15 thousand employees will be laid off. The decision will affect about 15 percent of Intel’s total workforce. The layoff process is actually part of a restructuring plan that dates back several months. In the process launched in August, attractive compensation packages were first offered to employees who voluntarily chose early retirement or wanted to leave their jobs.

For example, those with more than 5 years of service were offered 4 months’ salary, those with 10 years or more 10 months’ salary, and those who had been with Intel for 30 years or more 19 months’ salary. While these voluntary departures met a significant portion of Intel’s layoff targets, the company has decided to implement mandatory layoffs for the remaining employees.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger emphasized that this decision was inevitable for the company’s long-term strategies. Gelsinger stated that such difficult steps had to be taken to control costs and make the company more efficient.

The layoffs are aimed at strengthening the company’s financial structure, while providing the necessary financial resources to increase the company’s technological investments and capitalize on future growth opportunities. It remains to be seen how these significant changes in the workforce will shape Intel’s future innovation and competitiveness.
